Darren's mam and dad very kindly offered, after we grovelled, to take the kids for a couple of hours last Sunday. So we decided to go see Inception. Wow. Chris Nolan is a God, he's great. Finally, for the first time in ages I got to see an original movie idea. No sequel, prequel or remake, just a bloody brilliant film that leaves you going "is he? did they?" etc. Fantastic. Great eye candy too. One of the fight scenes with Joseph Gordon-Levitt has got to be seen to be believed. Actually, most of the scenes using Gordon-Levitt are fantasitcal as . . . well, you'll have to go see it. The fact that we had an afternoon to go see a movie was brilliant too. We were like kids queuing for our popcorn and pepsi. THEN, because the nana and granddad said we came home too early last time, we decided to go get something to eat. Only to be absolutely gobsmacked when the card needed to pay for said meal didn't work in the machine?????? Turns out if you don't actually use your credit card that often AIB shut it down when you use it to purchase movie tickets as they think the money being spent is nominal?! Got it sorted. Actually, Darren did. I hid. In the car.
Got kids, came home, watched the final episode of West Wing Series 2 and . . .. aaaaaaaaaaaagh. How much drama is someone meant to take in one day. Jesus, Martin Sheet and Andrew Sorkin are brilliant. Martin, because you believe in him and Sorkin because I think he is one of the greatest writers ever. That scene in the Cathedral where Sheens starts giving out to God in Latin. Goosebumps.
It's mad watching the West Wing, it's so fast and sometimes my brain struggles to keep up. Hey!! We watch it waaaay to late into the night. Well, that's my excuse anyway. What boggles my head is that people actually live that life. I get stressed trying to raise 3 kids and one borrowed.
Welcome to the select club of people who truly appreciate the brilliance of the West Wing series, Niamh. You and Darren are in for a few months of fantastic TV. Me and Linda have watched all seven series and bought all the boxsets. It is the only series we have ever bothered to that for. Sorkin's writing is just phenomenal but the cast are amazing also. The interplay between characters as they walk down Corridors is just fantastic. Always loved Martin Sheen in films and he is brilliant in this. I am so jealous that my wife got to meet him in Tipperary a few years ago and admired her for not going all mushy and saying things like "oh my god, you're that guy off the West Wing". They talked instead about Labradors, a fine subject to bring up with an actor you admire!
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I wanted to say about the quality of the writing, interaction etc. etc. only couldn't work out how.
